Partial Payments, the "Partially Paid" Status & the 98% Rule

Updated July 28, 20263 views

Paid part of an invoice? Nothing is lost and nothing is hidden. This page explains the three things people ask about: what happens to a partial payment, what the "Partially Paid" label means, and the 98% rule that keeps your service running when a payment lands just short.

In one line

Every rupee or cent you pay is applied to your invoice immediately. If that brings you to 98% or more, we renew your licence anyway and carry the tiny remainder on your account.

1. What happens to a partial payment

When a payment — or your wallet balance — covers only part of an invoice, the available amount is applied straight away and the rest stays due. Your money is never held aside or lost.

2. The "Partially Paid" label

Looking for what every invoice label means? See Invoice Statuses Explained.

Any invoice that has received money but isn't fully settled is labelled Partially Paid — in your dashboard and in your invoice list. It replaces the plain "Unpaid" label so nobody has to guess.

On the invoice you will always see three figures:

  • Invoice total — the full amount
  • Amount received — what has already been applied
  • Balance due — exactly what is left to pay

Your support agent sees the same label and the same three numbers, so if you contact us there is no confusion about whether your payment arrived.

A Partially Paid invoice is still an open invoice. Its due date and the normal due-date rules still apply to the remaining balance — so please clear it before the due date.

3. The 98% rule

If a payment brings an invoice to 98% or more of its total, we treat it as settled:

  • Your licence renews immediately — no suspension, no waiting
  • The shortfall becomes a small pending amount on your account
  • Your next wallet deposit clears it first, automatically
  • Nothing is suspended while that pending amount exists, and it never grows

Example. Your invoice is $10.00 and $9.85 is applied — that's 98.5%. We renew your licence. The remaining $0.15 sits on your account, and the next time you top up your wallet, that $0.15 comes off the top. Done.

Why this rule exists

Currency conversion, payment-gateway rounding and exchange-rate movement routinely leave gaps of a few cents or rupees. Taking a customer's server offline over that would be absurd — it costs you an outage and costs us a support ticket for a trivial amount. So we renew first and reconcile quietly afterwards.

Clearing a balance

Any of these work:

  1. Pay the invoice directly from your dashboard — card, crypto or wallet
  2. Top up your wallet — pending amounts are always taken first, then any open invoice can be paid from the balance
  3. Do nothing if it's a pending amount under the 98% rule — it settles itself on your next deposit

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My invoice says "Partially Paid" — did my payment go through? A: Yes. The Amount received figure on the invoice is exactly what we have. Balance due is what remains.

Q: Does a pending amount grow, or attract interest or a late fee? A: No. It is fixed, it never grows, and no late fee is applied to it.

Q: I paid the full amount but a small balance still shows. Why? A: Almost always a currency-conversion or gateway rounding difference. At 98% or more the rule above applies automatically and your licence renews. If it looks wrong, open a ticket and we will check it.

Q: Will a pending amount stop my other services from renewing? A: No. It is settled from your next deposit, and nothing is suspended because of it.

Q: My payment was well below 98% — what now? A: The amount is applied and reduces what you owe, the invoice is marked Partially Paid, and the balance stays due under the normal due-date rules.

Q: Can I get the partial amount refunded instead? A: Contact support and we will review it. Normally it is simpler to leave it applied to the invoice or move it to your wallet for future use.
